Swiss banking giant UBS has reduced its London headcount by approximately two hundred positions over the course of the past few weeks. People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg News that the recent reductions span multiple business divisions, including wealth management and the investment banking division.

The staff cuts arrive as the financial institution approaches the final stage of absorbing its former rival Credit Suisse. UBS took over Credit Suisse in an emergency rescue deal more than three years ago, sparking one of the largest corporate restructuring exercises in the global banking sector.

Total headcount at the bank swelled to just under 120,000 immediately following the acquisition, but figures have since fallen by about 18 percent across the organization. To soften the blow for affected staff, the company has offered alternative internal roles to some of those whose specific positions were eliminated during the consolidation.

A UBS spokesperson declined to comment on the ongoing restructuring exercise when contacted by reporters. Market analysts and reports suggest the organization may eventually eliminate around 30 percent of its combined post merger workforce, although senior executives have not disclosed a specific timeline or target.

The latest workforce reductions follow a series of operational consolidations, system migrations, and cost efficiency measures implemented by the firm. The integration process has involved phasing out legacy platforms, merging duplicate administrative functions across international financial hubs, and scaling back physical office footprints.

The Swiss lender expects to deliver its final cost reduction targets by the end of the year as remaining operational overlaps are resolved. Official corporate filings note that personnel expenses have decreased in line with the smaller overall workforce.
